If things feel like too much right now Being called a narcissist isn’t an emergency. But if you’re in real distress, start here, not with the rest of the site. Call Lifeline 13 11 14 any time, or if someone’s life is in danger, ring 000.

These are real Australian services, staffed by people who do this for a living. There are no ads on this page and nothing to sell you. Use whichever fits.

Seeing a counsellor or psychologist

If you want to talk to someone properly, your GP is the cheapest front door. In Australia, a GP can put together a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which gives you Medicare-subsidised sessions with a registered psychologist or counsellor each year. You don’t need to be in crisis to ask — “I’ve been having a rough time and want to talk to someone” is enough.

No shame in it

Reaching out isn’t admitting you’re “the problem,” and it isn’t proving anyone right. It’s getting a clear, neutral read from someone who isn’t in the argument with you. That’s useful whether the label was fair or not.
